While traditional passive systems continue to be cherished by many for their character and flexibility, SM’s fully active design offers an alternative approach – one that emphasizes total system synergy, direct signal integrity, and precise driver control.
Tuned by a professional musician holding a PhD from Cambridge University, and engineered by a veteran designer with over 40 years of experience, SM Sound Machine delivers an experience that’s honest, immersive and musically alive.

Dedicated Amplifier per Driver
No passive crossover – each driver is directly controlled, preserved timing, phase coherence, and dynamic precision.

MULTI WAY DEDICATED DIRECT DRIVE AMPLIFICATIONS (SM1500/1800MW)
Every driver is powered by its own amplifier, which eliminates the need for passive crossovers. This in turn ensure that the drivers get:
- Dedicated amplifier per driver
- Line-level active crossover
Which allows a precise and accurate control of driver movement. For the listeners, this translates to high clarity and details. The layers and depth of each band is much clearer and defined – especially in the low frequency band.
Optimal for orchestral, large ensembles, live stage recordings playback.
FULL-RANGE HYBRID INTEGRATED DIRECT DRIVE SYSTEM (SM500/800/1000/1200HF)
Another approach to the direct drive system is the adoption of a hybrid system which creates another kind of soundstage option for the listener.
Building on the direct drive philosophy, such a system allows:
- Coherent Sound (No Crossover interference)
- Focused stereo image soundstage (Ideal for near-field intimate listening)
Coupled with the smaller enclosure that we had designed in mind for the series of speakers in this family, this range is optimal for intimate vocals, pop, and instrumental playbacks.
